Come and visit the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw for an exhibition dedicated to humour. The exhibition “Banter. Humor of the 1990s” is an opportunity to recall what we laughed at in the last decade of the 20th century in the press, radio and television.
We show a broad landscape of humour of the Third Republic of Poland. The exhibition includes works by cartoonists acclaimed before 1989, such as Andrzej Mleczko or Andrzej Czeczot, future classics such as Marek Raczkowski, as well as underground, zine art. Caricature and comics intersect here, metaphors are juxtaposed with sex jokes, and last but not least: the analogue mixes with the digital. After all, the word “multimedia”, the charmingly anachronistic today, played a significant role in the 1990s. Therefore, we are not limiting ourselves to the analogue work of satirical artists – we are also reaching back to the television of the time, humour straight from the Internet (with capital letters!) or humorous music. How much has changed in the course of the last few years of the transformation can be seen in the examples of satire referring to pop culture and advertising.
The exhibition organized by the curatorial team: Olga Drenda and the creators of Podcastex: Mateusz Witkowski and Bartek Przybyszewski, together with Michał Rzecznik.
The graphic design is the work of Dominik Cymer – graphic designer and illustrator, while the software and electronics for the interactive game were made by Michał Urbański and Krzysiek Pochwała.
