Tekla Bądarzewska’s Romantic Salon

A curator-guided tour with Marek Teler of the exhibition Tekla Bądarzewska’s Romantic Salon. Born in Warsaw in 1823, the composer Tekla Bądarzewska was the author of one of the most popular piano pieces in the world, A Maiden’s Prayer (Modlitwa dziewicy). Within just a few years, the work achieved unimaginable popularity across all continents. Although the fashion for Bądarzewska ended in Europe by the late 19th century, the fame of A Maiden’s Prayer endured in Asia, where to this day it can still be heard on Japanese railway platforms or… during garbage truck rounds in Taiwan. The exhibition features archival materials from the collections of the State Archives in Warsaw.
