Tour of Zbigniew Maleszewski’s Historic Studio and the Solidarity Movement Clandestine Printing Press

A tour of the studio of Zbigniew Maleszewski (1924–2017)—an outstanding artist, architect, and sculptor, inspirer of the Center of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, soldier of the Home Army, and participant in the Vilnius uprising. Viewers will see an extraordinary space combining the history of art, the creator’s biography, and the memory of the 20th century. From the 1960s, the artist lived and worked at 15/17 Bugaj St, creating a place with a unique character: an impressive, over five-meter-high interior with a mezzanine, a rich library, and collections of art, crafts, militaria, geological, and natural specimens. A special element of this place is the basement, where a secret Solidarity printing press operated in the 1980s, and the preserved printing equipment and underground publications remain a testimony to opposition activities. In front of the studio, there is a permanent outdoor gallery presenting the artist’s sculptures.
