Promotional Gallery

Since 1956, a space presenting contemporary art has operated continuously at the exact same address and on the very same floor of the Old Town Cultural Centre. The Promotional Gallery—successor to the legendary Krzywe Koło Galleryof Modern Art—is today the oldest continuously operating contemporary art gallery within Warsaw's municipal cultural structure.

Founded by Marian Bogusz, the Krzywe Koło Club Gallery was one of the first spaces in Poland dedicated to modern and avant-garde art—a venue for bold exhibitions that, following the period of socialist realism, opened the Polish art scene to abstraction, expression, and experiment. This is where postwar debuts, artistic disputes, and new languages of art were born.

In subsequent decades, the gallery functioned as the Gallery of Contemporary Art before adopting the name Promotional Gallery in 1987 to consistently pursue its mission: supporting young and emerging artists and presenting the latest phenomena in contemporary art. Today, the gallery's activities combine the promotion of young creators with reflection upon the heritage of this venue.
